Who the IceMan Classic3 knee package is for
The DonJoy IceMan Classic3 knee package is for patients recovering from knee surgery whose doctor has prescribed cold therapy. That includes ACL surgery, a meniscus repair, a knee arthroscopy or a total knee replacement.
It's a good pick if you want a cooler whose lid locks down for carrying between rooms. The package combines the Classic3 unit with the McGuire knee wrap-on pad. Already have a pad? Pick "Cooler Only - No Pad."

- Classic3 power supply (DonJoy part 25-4041)
- McGuire Knee wrap-on pad with an open patella (a cut-out over the kneecap), non-sterile, 6.5″ regular hose (11-1268-9-00000), 10.85″ x 11.34″, one size fits most
Power supply note: the CLEAR3 cord (25-4882) and the DonJoy IceMan power supply accessory we sell do not fit the Classic3. Use the Classic3 cord.
Use the pad over a moisture barrier such as DonJoy IceMan sterile dressings. Classic replacement wrap-on pads and the Y adapter for two pads are sold separately.
Setting up the IceMan Classic3
Swing the handle forward to free the lid. Add ice to the fill line, then cold water to its line. With the handle still forward, set the lid in place, press down and rotate the handle up and back until it latches. Snap the pad hose on until you hear it click, then connect power at the back of the unit.
Water that warms in the pad flows back and mixes with ice water at a constant rate. DonJoy says this keeps the cold even across the pad, with a target of about 38°F to 42°F.

How does it differ from the CLEAR3?
Same recirculation and the same pad catalog. The Classic3 has the latching handle; the CLEAR3 knee package has a transparent cooler. Power cords are not shared between them.
What can I use instead of ice cubes?
Freeze water in cups or plastic tubs and drop the blocks in. DonJoy advises against frozen water bottles.
Is buying better than renting?
Rentals are typically billed weekly and must be returned. Compare a quote for your full recovery with buying using our rent-or-buy guide. HSA/FSA cards work at checkout.
