Who this IceMan knee package is for
This DonJoy IceMan knee package is for someone heading into knee surgery whose surgeon has prescribed cold therapy at home. Typical procedures are an ACL reconstruction, a meniscus repair, a knee arthroscopy (surgery through small incisions) or a knee replacement. It pairs DonJoy's IceMan CLEAR3 cooler with the McGuire knee wrap-on pad, so the one pad you need is already in the box. If you already own a knee pad, choose "None - Cooler Only."

Plan on a barrier between skin and pad; DonJoy IceMan sterile dressings are made for this. Spare IceMan wrap-on pads, a dual-pad Y adapter and reusable ice bag packs are sold on their own.
Setting up the IceMan after knee surgery
Fill ice to the line inside the cooler, then top up with cold water to its line. Seat the lid so its lip drops into the groove and press the front down. Click the cooler hose onto the pad hose until it snaps tight. Plug the cord into the back of the unit, then into the wall.
The pump recirculates the water. Water that has warmed in the pad flows back and mixes with the ice water at a steady rate. DonJoy says this keeps the whole pad evenly cold and avoids freezing water at the inlet. DonJoy targets water reaching the pad at roughly 38°F to 42°F.

CLEAR3 or Classic3?
Both use the same recirculation design and take the same DonJoy pads. The CLEAR3 has a clear cooler for checking ice at a glance; the Classic3 knee package latches its lid with a rotating handle. Their power cords are different parts and are not interchangeable.
Can I use frozen water bottles?
DonJoy says no. Large blocks frozen in cups or plastic containers are fine.
Rent or buy for knee surgery?
Rental is usually priced per week and the unit goes back afterward; this one is yours for the whole recovery. Our knee rental guide compares the two. HSA and FSA cards are accepted; keep your receipt and prescription.
Warranty, prescription and returns
DonJoy covers the cooler for 6 months and wrap-on pads for 1 month from purchase (warranty helpline 800-336-6569). DonJoy warns the unit can get cold enough to cause serious injury and should only be used with a physician's prescription and direction. Because it is a single-patient medical device (made for one person's use), we can't take it back after it ships unless a defect falls under the manufacturer's warranty; see our refund policy.
