Who the Polar Care Wave hip package is for
The Breg Polar Care Wave hip package is for patients going home after hip surgery, such as a hip replacement or hip arthroscopy (surgery through a few small incisions). Choose it when your surgeon wants cold and compression around the hip and upper thigh.
You get the Wave unit plus Breg's cold compression hip pad. Breg says the Wave is meant to reduce swelling and pain after surgery or an injury when both cold and compression are called for. If only cold is prescribed, the Polar Care Cube hip package is simpler.
For comparison, a Game Ready cold therapy system costs roughly ten times as much as the Polar Care Wave.
In the box
- Polar Care Wave unit (Breg 100577-000) with tubing and wall power supply
- Breg Cold Compression Hip Pad (Breg C00013), unless you choose "None - Cooler Only"
Only Breg Wave pads plug into the Wave. Cube, Kodiak and IceMan pads don't.
Wave hip pad fit
- Pad size: 16″ x 12″
- Waist: 33″ to 53″
- Thigh: 8″ to 31″
- Straps: two 20″ straps plus one 25″ strap that secure the pad around the waist and thigh

Cold and compression settings
Compression runs at Regular (about 50 mmHg average peak), Low (about 25 mmHg) or Off. mmHg is the same pressure unit used for blood pressure readings. Cold runs at Colder (pad averaging 45°F or above), Cold (50°F or above) or Off. Each has its own button, so your surgeon can prescribe cold alone, compression alone or both.
Wave hip FAQ
Do I need compression after hip surgery?
That's your surgeon's decision. If you're told to skip it, switch compression to Off and run cold only.
How often do I add ice to the Wave?
Breg suggests topping up every 6 to 8 hours or as needed. With four frozen Wave ice bags, swap them every 4 to 5 hours.
Can I use frozen water bottles instead of ice?
Breg's instructions allow only cubed ice with water, or four Breg ice bags with water.
Prescription, warranty and returns
U.S. federal law restricts the Wave to sale by or on the order of a medical professional, so use it as prescribed. Breg's warranty covers defects for 180 days from purchase. Because it's a single-patient device (made for one person's use), we can only take it back after shipping for a warranty defect; see our refund policy. Setup steps are in Breg's instructions for use (PDF) and the hip pad application video.
