Who the Polar Care Wave foot package is for
Pick the Breg Polar Care Wave foot package after foot surgery, such as a bunion correction or a forefoot or midfoot procedure. It's the right fit when your surgeon wants cold plus compression wrapped around the foot. The package pairs the Wave unit with Breg's foot/ankle cold compression pad. Breg designed the Wave to ease swelling and pain after surgery or an acute injury where cold and compression are both indicated.
For comparison, a Game Ready cold therapy system costs roughly ten times as much as the Polar Care Wave.
Package contents
- Breg Polar Care Wave (100577-000): reservoir, pump lid with controls, snap-lock tubing and power supply
- Breg Cold Compression Foot/Ankle Pad (C00005). The "None - Cooler Only" option leaves it out.
Heads up: Breg makes one pad for the foot and ankle, so this package and our Wave ankle package ship the same C00005 pad.
Wave foot pad fit
- Pad size: 17″ x 12″
- Foot circumference: 7″ to 12″
- Ankle circumference: 9″ to 16″
Other Wave pads are on the Wave size chart.
Using it day to day
Fill cold water to the water line and cubed ice to the ice line, close the lid and plug in. Water chills the pad while a separate air circuit squeezes and releases it about every one to two minutes.
The Wave has no shut-off timer. It only powers itself down after cold and compression have both been off for more than 15 minutes. Set phone reminders for skin checks, which Breg says are typically every 1 to 2 hours.
Wave foot FAQ
Is the foot pad different from the ankle pad?
No. Breg sells a single foot/ankle pad (C00005) for both.
Can I use frozen water bottles?
Breg's instructions allow cubed ice with water, or four Breg ice bags with water, and nothing else.
Do I need a spare Wave pad?
Not usually, but extra Wave pads and a replacement power cord are sold separately if you need them.
Prescription, warranty and returns
Federal law limits this device to sale by or on the order of a medical professional; follow your prescription for how long and how often. Breg warrants the Wave against defects for 180 days. It's a single-patient device (made for one person's use), so we can't accept returns after shipping except for warranty defects (see our refund policy). Breg's instructions (PDF) and a foot/ankle application video walk you through it.
