Buying Guide

The Ultimate Breg Polar Care Kodiak Buying Guide

1 in 5 Americans suffers from chronic pain. That's about 50 million people, 8% of which have such severe pain that it interferes with their ability to go about their daily lives.

If you've suffered from chronic pain, you know that there are a lot of solutions on the market that just don't work, or even make the problem worse.

Luckily, there's an option out there that can truly make a difference for those of you who want a treatment that works for you. The Breg Polar Care Kodiak is the answer, and here's why.

The Breg Polar Care Kodiak: What Is It?

The Breg Polar Care Kodiak is a Cold Therapy system, designed to treat pain and injuries by reducing blood flow to the area through the application of extreme cold. It can reduce swelling and even temporarily deaden nerves, minimizing pain and giving patients relief.

There are many kinds of tools to accomplish this out here, such as frozen gel packs, coolant sprays, and Ice Therapy Machines.

Ice Therapy Machines?

An Ice Therapy Machine is a device designed to utilize cold compression as a means of physiotherapy. These machines use the freezing effect in conjunction with compression to target specific areas on the body and assist in the reduction of pain in the body.

So Why This Specific Machine?

Well, that's what we want to show you in this article. Now that we've introduced the concepts behind the device, we can talk about why this exact device is the right choice for you.

Product Overview (What's Included In This Product)

The Kodiak system is a mobile, light, 4-pound device that you can carry around with you anywhere. It comes with an easy-to-use 60" hose and can be connected to almost any of the Intelliflo pads with easy to use plug n' play connectors.

There is also a number of purchasing options for the base kit, allowing you to customize your purchase in any way you'd like, up to and including specific treatment options with the unique Intelliflo Customized pads.

Who This Product Is Meant For

Let's be clear - if you suffer from joint pain, swelling injuries, or any other form of pain, then this product is for you. The Kodiak system is designed to not only treat pain, but to do so quickly, efficiently, and with minimal mess and trouble. You can use it at home, or utilize the battery system to treat your pain on the go. (Battery sold separately.)

Medical professionals have said that cold therapy (especially in conjunction with compression therapy) is not only the best for muscular and nerve pain, but also helps your muscle tissues repair themselves faster, and improves blood and lymphatic fluid flow to affected areas.

This product can also be used to help reduce recovery times and is recommended for post-op, plastic, general, and reconstructive surgeries, arthroscopic procedures, post-trauma, and chronic pain.

How to Use The Breg Polar Care Kodiak

The Kodiak is not a complicated device. Learning to use and maintain it takes practically no time at all and has great results. You'll be a natural with it in minutes and on your way to recovery.

The Basics

Using the Kodiak Cryotherapy system is as simple as filling the container with water and ice, putting on a pad, and pressing a button.

But let's get into the details: How exactly does it work, and what do you need to know about using it to treat you specifically? Well, aside from step one of water and ice, the Kodiak system has a number of additional Intelliflo pads that can be connected via a hose.

These pads are designed to target a specific part of your body and are intuitively connected to the machine as easily as they are attached to you. These pads can be ordered with the machine, and come in Hip, Knee (regular and compressive), Ankle, Back (Standard and XL), Shoulder, and Wrist.

Once you've filled the machine with water and ice, and chosen/put on your selected Intelliflo pad, simply connect the hose to the pad, Plug in the machine if you chose the non-battery version, press the on button and relax. The machine will take care of the rest! Make sure your hands are dry before plugging in the cable or messing with the battery, though.

Troubleshooting

One of the most common mistakes using the Kodiak system is letting kinks form in the cord. Make sure there are no kinks, check that the transformer is connected properly and firmly to a grounded outlet, and check the tubes and pads for disconnects.

Condensation will occasionally form on the cables, especially in warmer climates. Don't worry too much about it, but ensure that no fluids are getting into your wall socket!

While it's rare, leaks can happen occasionally, whether by manufacturer defect or accidental damage. Thankfully, the Kodiak comes not only with an excellent warranty, but a built-in customer care line that can be called to assist with any issue you might have had. Feel free to call them at (800) 321-0607.

All of this information and more is also available online here

How to Maintain This Product

The Kodiak system has one of the simplest care processes of any therapy unit on the market. No mess, no fuss; just drain the unit after each use and dry the pump with a soft cloth.

You may also clean the pump and tubes occasionally with warm water and a mild detergent. There are no serviceable parts, but if something should go wrong, call the number listed above to order replacements.

Benefits of Using This Product

The benefits of using this system are simple, in that you will see an improvement in your daily life and the reduction of pain. The Kodiak system is also one of the most adaptable and simple to use, offering long-term benefits for its users.

The Kodiak Care system also offers excellent customer service and stands above and beyond its peers in terms of long-term treatment, ease of use, and most of all success. Just look at the reviews below and see for yourself how many people are satisfied with this system.

Alternatives to Using This Product

Look, we get it, no one wants to hear a brand sale spiel. So let's talk about some other systems you can use. As we mentioned earlier, frozen gel packs, coolant sprays, and even basic ice packs seem like a cheaper, easier alternative.

But what these care choices give you is only a short-term solution to the problem. Gel packs and sprays are often messy and struggle to truly penetrate deep into the tissue to help solve the problem. The Breg Polar Care Kodiak System is just that - a system that can evenly distribute the treatment to affected areas, cleanly, efficiently, and reliably.

Breg has a proven track record with cold therapy machines, and nothing encapsulates their design philosophy of good, affordable, and efficient care like the Kodiak.

Additionally, where other cold therapy machines on the market often have decent results, the Kodiak system is the only one to have the proven track record, adaptability, and affordability one should look for in personal care.

Additional Accessories

By now you're probably sick of hearing about all the Intelliflo additional parts. But did you know that you can also get dual flow connectors that allow you to connect an additional pad for multi-placement treatment? You can even get spare power supplies, including batteries and cables so that you can make the Kodiak work for you exactly the way you need it to. This allows the Kodiak device to be portable beyond your wall socket. So if you have a long drive home from the hospital and want cold therapy while on your ride home, the Kodiak is an ideal choice.

It's also worth mentioning that the Intelliflo system is exclusive to the Breg Polar Care Kodiak System, which means that only the Kodiak gets you the value, comfort, and ease of use that these plug n' play targeting systems bring.

Other FAQs

Here a few common questions customers have about the Kodiak system. You can also find additional resources and information on the Breg home page here.

How Often Do I Need to Replace the Ice in My Unit?

Generally, the unit can keep them cold for anywhere between 4-10 hours, though you can increase both the ease of maintenance and the shelf life of your ice by using frozen water bottles instead of ice cubes.

If I Get a Y-Adapter Will It Affect the Success of the Product?

No, the Intelliflo Y-adapter was designed to smoothly transfer the water between two Intelliflo pads. This can allow for simple and easy application to two areas.

Is There Any Reason I Shouldn't Use This System?

Yes, actually. If you have a sensory disorder that reduces your ability to feel cold, such as diabetes, it is not recommended that you use this system.

Can I Use It While Sleeping?

While it's possible, it is not recommended.

This Unit Seems Pricey; Will My Insurance Cover It?

Quality work often seems pricey - think of it as a one-time investment in your health, and remember that it comes with an excellent warranty. As to insurance, that depends on the individual insurance and is something you will have to bring up with your health care provider.

Can I Return It if I Don't Like It?

Unfortunately, the return policy specifies that the system can not be returned if used - however, all products have a minimum 30-day warranty and can be returned or exchanged if unused. It is recommended to speak to your healthcare provider if you are uncertain whether this product would be a good fit for you.

It's Not Perfect

There is no such thing as a perfect Panacea. The simple fact of the matter is that even the Breg Polar Care Kodiak can't cure every ailment.

But if you suffer from pain or OA and are looking for a way to get relief, the Kodiak is a great option for reduced swelling and a speedy rehab.

GREAT customer service from Stacey when I inquired about purchasing a system for upcoming hip replacement surgery. Stacey was SUPER helpful in explaining plus made sure I received everything I needed prior to surgery. I HIGHLY recommend this product. I purchased the Kodiak, Intelli-flo hip pad as well as the Intelli-flo knee pad. I'm likely needing knee replacement soon, so am prepared now. It worked beautifully in recovering from hip surgery.

Had a TKR yesterday. Dr wants 72 hours continuous use of the ice machine. Tried using the frozen bottles for my cold sources but found out that the ice cube and water method was much effective, if a little less convenient

Nice Cold therapy machine

Recent knee replacement and this cold therapy unit works very well. Very happy I purchased as I use it all the time. Great to reduce inflammation and pain. Only 4 stars as I expected to receive at least one protective skin protective barrier. Other than that the portable machine works very well. Shipped on a timely manner too.

Best product for ice therapy

I'd had a double knee replacement. This is wonderful! Incredibly easy to use. It lasts all day. My only issue is that the battery is very tight and hard to get on and off. I usually have to have someone else snap it in place. It works great for me because I have people with me 100% of the time. A close friend of ours had a hip replacement and had purchased one but never used it because he was alone. He had no one to fill with ice and water and carry to the living room for him. I, personally, would never have another procedure like this without using the Breg. I also love the fact that Breg is the only company that offers a battery system instead of electric. One less cord to trip over.

Lifesaver!

After my husband’s knee replacement, we used this at night instead of the ice packs. We put 4 small frozen water bottles in the container in addition to the water and loose ice to provide a little longer time frame of the ice bath. The Kodiak provided a coolness not quite as intense as an ice pack and my husband could sleep with it on for about 6 hours. It provided comfort for him and I didn’t have to change it out allowing better rest for me too.
