Cold therapy set up for shoulder surgery
This Breg Polar Care Cube shoulder package is for patients recovering from rotator cuff repair, labral repair, shoulder replacement or other shoulder procedures whose surgeon has prescribed cold therapy without compression. The shoulder WrapOn pad drapes over the joint and fastens with straps, so it stays put whether you rest in bed or a recliner.

Add a sterile dressing sized for the shoulder pad, because Breg requires an insulation barrier under every pad. Replacement WrapOn pads are sold separately.
Picking the shoulder pad size
- Shoulder, Regular (04900): 10.25″ x 11.5″
- Shoulder, XL (04905): 13″ x 21.5″, covering more of the upper arm and shoulder blade
If your chest measures 40″ or more, go with the XL. Full sizing is on the Cube size chart.
Daily use
Load ice to the ice line, add water to the water line, attach the pad hose, position the pad over your dressing and plug in. The pump sends ice water through the pad without any settings to adjust. Breg says one ice fill provides about 6 to 8 hours of cold, and the pad averages 45°F or warmer when used with a Polar Dressing. Empty, the cooler is about 4 lb (14.5 lb when filled), with a power cord a little under 4 ft.
Buy or rent for a shoulder recovery?

Do I need the XL shoulder pad?
Choose XL if your chest is 40″ or larger. Under 40″, start with the Regular pad.
How many hours a day should I ice after shoulder surgery?
Protocols vary by surgeon and procedure. Follow the frequency and duration on your prescription, and check your skin typically every 1 to 2 hours.
Can I use it after a nerve block?
Ask your surgeon first. Breg lists numbness from local anesthesia or a regional nerve block as a risk factor, because you may not feel the pad getting too cold.
How long does one fill of ice last?
About 6 to 8 hours per Breg, depending on how much ice you pack.
