Cold and compression for shoulder recovery
This listing is the Aircast Cryo Cuff IC motorized cooler packaged with a shoulder Cryo Cuff. It's meant for patients recovering from rotator cuff repair, shoulder stabilization, shoulder replacement or a shoulder injury whose clinician has prescribed cold plus compression. Aircast states the system is intended for the temporary reduction of swelling and pain after surgery or injury.
Contents
- Cryo Cuff IC cooler (Aircast 51A) with integrated lid pump
- Power supply
- One universal shoulder Cryo Cuff: standard strap (12A01) or XL strap (12AXL01)
Need a spare? Replacement shoulder cuffs and a tube assembly are sold separately.
Choosing the strap length
- Shoulder Cryo Cuff, standard strap: fits 32″ to 48″
- Shoulder Cryo Cuff, XL strap: fits 42″ to 54″
If you're near the top of the standard range, the XL strap gives you more room. Check the Aircast size chart before ordering.
How it works on the shoulder
Fill the cooler with ice and water, attach the blue tube to the shoulder cuff, and hold the cooler up (no more than 15″ above the cuff) for about 30 seconds so the cuff fills. Then set the cooler down level with the cuff and plug in. Every 30 seconds the lid pump pressurizes the cuff and then releases it, cycling chilled water between cuff and cooler. That gives intermittent compression along with continuous cold. Without power, the IC still works the old-fashioned way, by gravity.
Key specs
- Cycle: 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off
- Modes: motorized or gravity
- Cuffs: works with Aircast Cryo/Cuffs and ArcticFlow cuffs, so the same cooler can later run a knee or ankle cuff
- Warranty: 180 days on the unit and accessories against defects (DJO)
Rent or own?
Shoulder rentals tend to be billed weekly over what can be a long recovery. Because the Cryo Cuff IC is a single-patient device you keep, compare the full rental cost with buying; see our rent-or-buy guide. HSA and FSA cards are welcome at checkout; save your receipt and prescription.
Shoulder Cryo Cuff FAQ
Which strap size do I need?
The standard cuff covers 32″ to 48″; the XL strap version covers 42″ to 54″.
How high should I hold the cooler?
No higher than 15″ above the cuff while filling, then level with the cuff during treatment.
Who should be careful using it?
Aircast advises extra caution for people with poor circulation or reduced skin sensitivity, children, older adults and anyone with severe cardiovascular disease. Talk to your clinician first.
How often should I check my skin?
Every 1 to 2 hours, per Aircast's instructions, with a cloth or bandage barrier between the cuff and your skin.
Prescription and returns
The Cryo Cuff IC is a prescription device for single-patient use. Aircast recommends at least 20 minutes off between 2-hour sessions. Once it ships, we can accept a return only for a defect covered by the manufacturer's warranty; see our refund policy.
