An IceMan Clear3 shoulder setup for shoulder surgery
This DonJoy IceMan Clear3 shoulder package pairs the Clear3 cooler with a DonJoy shoulder wrap-on pad. It's intended for people recovering from rotator cuff repair, labral repair, shoulder replacement or similar shoulder procedures whose physician has prescribed cold therapy. DonJoy states the Clear3 helps reduce pain and swelling and is used for protocols directed by a medical professional.

- IceMan Clear3 cooler (11-0493) and power supply
- One shoulder wrap-on pad: Shoulder (11-1334) or Shoulder - Small (11-1397), both with DonJoy's extended 15″ pad hose
DonJoy designs its wrap-on pads to be worn over a moisture barrier, and a sterile dressing is the simplest choice. Replacement wrap-on pads are sold separately.
Which shoulder pad fits you?
- Shoulder (regular): 14″ x 23″ x 12.5″
- Small shoulder: 12.75″ x 19″ x 12.25″
The regular pad fits generously and feels loose on many people. If your chest circumference is under 42″, order the small. At 42″ or more, the regular pad should work well. Our IceMan size chart has the full list.
How it works day to day
Fill the clear cooler with ice and then cold water to the marked lines, press the lid down until it seals, click the shoulder pad hose into the cooler hose and plug in. The pump self-primes and recirculates water: what warms up in the pad returns and is remixed with ice water at a steady rate. DonJoy says that keeps the whole pad evenly cold, with water delivered in a 38°F to 42°F target range. The transparent tub lets you see from your chair when it's time to add ice.

How many hours a day should I ice after shoulder surgery?
Follow your surgeon's protocol. DonJoy designs the IceMan for extended cold therapy as directed by a medical professional.
Can I use frozen water bottles in the cooler?
No. DonJoy says bottles block the ice from chilling the water, and label residue can get into the hose and pad. Homemade ice blocks from cups or plastic containers are fine.
What if the pump won't run?
Work through DonJoy's Clear3 troubleshooting guide (PDF) first; it covers power, flow and leaks.
Warranty and returns
The manufacturer's warranty is 6 months on the cooler and 1 month on wrap-on pads. DonJoy warns this device can get cold enough to cause serious injury, so use it only with a prescription and your physician's direction.
