Who should choose the Breg Polar Care Kodiak

The Kodiak is the Polar Care unit for patients who want cold therapy that isn't tied to a wall outlet. With Breg's optional battery pack it can run during the car ride home from surgery, on the sidelines or out on the patio. It covers the same recoveries as Breg's other cold-only units: total knee and hip replacement, arthroscopic shoulder and rotator cuff repair, general and plastic surgery, post-trauma care and physical therapy. It uses Breg's Intelli-Flo pads, and you choose the body part above.

The Kodiak battery pack is sold separately. Breg also recommends using the Kodiak with a sterile Intelli-Flo dressing, and replacement Intelli-Flo pads and an Intelli-Flo Y connector are available too.

How the Kodiak works

Add a little ice and water to the marked lines, connect the Intelli-Flo pad, and power it from the wall or the battery pack. The pump circulates ice water through the pad, and Breg says each ice replacement delivers about 6 to 8 hours of cold. Breg describes the pump as whisper-quiet, designed to let patients rest.

Buy or rent?

Rentals are typically priced per week and returned at the end. How long does the battery last?

Breg rates the battery pack, which takes four AA batteries, at 10 to 14 hours of motorized cold therapy.

What's the difference between the Kodiak and the Cube?

Both are cold-only and rated for about 6 to 8 hours per fill. The Kodiak adds the battery option and uses Intelli-Flo pads, while the Cube plugs into the wall and uses WrapOn pads.

Is it OK to run the pump dry?

No. Breg warns that running the unit without water can damage the pump.

Which pads fit the Kodiak?

Only Intelli-Flo pads. Cube WrapOn pads and Wave pads won't connect.

Prescription, warranty and returns

Federal law restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a licensed health care practitioner, and Breg requires an insulation barrier between the Intelli-Flo pad and your skin. Breg's warranty covers defects for 180 days. Because the Kodiak is single-patient equipment, it can't be returned once shipped except for a covered defect; see our refund policy.
