Who the Polar Care Wave shoulder package is for
The Breg Polar Care Wave shoulder package is built for recovery from shoulder surgery, such as a rotator cuff repair or a total or reverse shoulder replacement. Choose it when your surgeon prescribes cold together with compression.
You get the Wave unit and Breg's shoulder cold compression pad. Breg intends the Wave to reduce pain and swelling after surgery or an injury when cold and compression are both prescribed. For cold only, see the Polar Care Cube shoulder package.
For comparison, a Game Ready cold therapy system costs roughly ten times as much as the Polar Care Wave.
What's included
- Polar Care Wave (Breg part 100577-000) plus connecting tubing and power supply
- Breg Cold Compression Shoulder Pad, part C00004 ("None - Cooler Only" ships without it)
Wave shoulder pad fit
- Pad size: 15″ x 13″
- Around the shoulder: 40″ to 50″
- Bicep: 12″ to 20″
- Straps: a 34″ shoulder strap and a 9.5″ bicep strap
Measuring under 40″ around the shoulder? Breg's universal pad (C00016) fits 31″ to 49″ at the chest/shoulder and comes with our Wave universal package. See the Wave size chart.
How it runs
Pour in cold water and then cubed ice to their lines, latch the lid and plug it in. The pad gets chilled water from one circuit and gentle inflate-and-release compression from another.
Compression has two levels: Regular (about 50 mmHg) and Low (about 25 mmHg). mmHg is the same pressure unit used for blood pressure readings. Cold also has two levels: Colder (pad at 45°F or above) and Cold (50°F or above). You can switch either one off.
Wave shoulder FAQ
How many hours a day should I ice after shoulder surgery?
Follow your surgeon's protocol; shoulder protocols vary. Breg says skin checks are typically every 1 to 2 hours, and the Wave has no built-in timer.
Can I use frozen water bottles instead of ice?
No. Breg's instructions call for cubed ice with water or four Breg Wave ice bags with water.
Can I add a second pad later?
Yes, extra Wave pads for other body parts connect to the same unit.
Prescription, warranty and returns
By U.S. federal law the Wave may be sold only by or on the order of a medical professional. Breg's warranty runs 180 days from purchase for defects in materials and workmanship. As a single-patient device (made for one person's use), it can't come back after shipping unless a warranty defect applies; see our refund policy. Breg's instructions for use (PDF) and the shoulder pad video cover setup.
